Living in a “Smart Home”

Most of you know that we bought our house about 2 years ago but just recently converted our house into a smart home.

Before we bought the house, I’ve always lived in apartment buildings, so moving to a place on ground level with noone bordering my walls was a new “sensation”. When we moved, I lay awake many hours into the night listening to the weird noises the house made and I can say 2 years later I am still not totally adjusted. With a house comes lots of responsibilities and between having TOTAL mom brain and being alone for days on end because my husband’s job requires him to travel a LOT, I’ve had a lot of anxiety about safety. I’ve recently got the HIVE Welcome Home plan, and you guys, this mama is in HEAVEN. Hive Active thermostat:

Me and D (aka my husband) run on totally different temperatures, I am always FREEZING while he claims to be living in a permanent sauna! Hive makes it so easy to adjust the temperature so it suits BOTH of us (very tough task). I also LUV how I can turn the heat on in the morning from my upstairs bed so I don’t have to get up to a freezing house. Or I can turn it on right when I’m heading home from the store (or turn it off if I forgot to).

And it is the prettiest thermostat I ever did see.

Hive Active Lights:

We travel a lot so it’s always in the back of our minds someone breaking in. We have positioned one of the lights by the window so we can easily turn it on or off when we are gone to make it look like someone is home or better yet schedule the light to come on at a certain time. It also works so great in the winter so you don’t have to wander around in a pitch black house if you get home after dark.

Ive also placed the smart light into the hutch so now it comes on everyday at dusk (LOVE IT)

Hive Active Plug:

Totally famous for not remembering if I turned the iron off, SUCH peace of mind now I can’t even tell ya.

Also, since our house is old, we don’t have AC but we have a portable unit in our bedroom cuz it gets hot with the evening sun pouring in, so we plugged the portable into the smart plug and that way can turn it on/off from downstairs or set a timer.

Window and door sensors:

I don’t know how many times I go and check downstairs to see if I locked up, so this gives me an extra peace of mind. It also works so great when we are gone, we can always rest assured no one has broken in. We are notified if a door or window is opened.

Hive motion sensor:

Love the sense of security that it gives whether I am home alone with the kids or travelling. Set alerts to your device.
