Well, it just hit me. Daylight savings time is just around the corner, March 11th. Even though it totally snuck up on me and it feels like we just set our clocks back in the fall, it totally feels like at this point winter will never end so this is giving me hope spring weather is around the corner.
Even though there isn’t much spring weather in sight yet, the days are most definitely getting longer. Sun is up much earlier (and so are my toddlers) and it is light until much later in the evening.
With the ever changing seasons I am so happy to have my Hive smart products set up, this way I am always one step ahead of the game.
One of my favourite products lately has been the Hive Motion Sensor and how it can be used in more than one way. We tried it in a few spots in our house, but I think we finally found the “sweet spot” where we can get the MOST out of it.
The way our house is laid out, if we place it on the wall in the corner by the front door entrance it can work in a variety of ways.
- It obviously detects motion, so if someone came through the front door, you can set it up to give you a notification, which we always have on when we are travelling.
- When you come into the house the motion sensor sends a notification to the lamp, which has a Hive Active Light, and turns on the light. That has come in handy when you are coming back home with your hands full of kids and groceries.
- Also, since the living room is right beside the entrance if it senses motion in the living room, the same thing as above happens – “LET THERE BE LIGHT”
I also absolutely love being able to schedule the lights in the house, that way I don’t have to stumble through the dark house trying to turn them on/off. I actually don’t like it when lights are all on and blaring so I love that Hive Active Lights are dimmable AND you can change them from cool white to warm yellow depending on the setting that you want to create. I leave them on cool white when the kids are playing and love that I can create a cozy romantic setting while me and hubby cozy up with some wine after the kids are in bed.
AND the best part of all, I can control everything from my phone.
If you’ve been following, you probably know that we roomed the girls together and the spare room is now a play room. While it’s still a work in progress, I love that Hive has really helped me put my mind at ease with the girls playing up there alone. We have the Hive View camera set up so I can keep an eye on the girls playing while I’m making supper. AND I can control the lamp in the room. If I know the girls are heading up there I will pop into the Hive app and switch the light on or off as they come and go. So easy and convenient and also very energy efficient! The Hive App also includes a ‘Mimic’ setting for light bulbs to turn on/off at random intervals to keep would be intruders away, making is appear as if you’re home. This will give us some peace of mind during our week long trip to Tofino, BC this April. Here’s to change of season, some warm weather ahead of us and an amazing world of technology that we live in these days to help make our lives so much easier. Happy Spring.
