Everyone knows how much I love photography. I spend my day taking pics of my little ladies. But unless you are on social media, most of my pictures don’t really get seen. So during the Holidays I buckled down and put together a best of 2016 photo album and I am so excited to give you guys my Blurb photo books review.
Taking photos and editing them is what I do to relax, it gives me so much gratification. My computer is constantly running low on space and my hard drive is full to the brim of endless photos. If I want to go back to a certain event it takes me 10 minutes of searching through endless files to find the folder I want. So when I was thinking of making a 2016 slide show to watch on New Years Eve it dawned on me, WHY NOT have something PHYSICAL, something we can all pick up and look through from time to time. And that is when Blurb came into the picture. After looking through their online bookstore I instantly got inspired to make my own.
One of the reasons I haven’t made an album is because I thought it would be difficult and frustrating. But after looking around I realized that Blurb provides so many options for creating your book, a million templates and so many convenient ways to make it. You can make it straight online or you have the option of downloading plug-ins such as Adobe® InDesign® . I was SO pleasantly surprised that I could just use Lightroom® as that is where I do all my editing. It truly made it easy as pie since I didn’t have to export any of the photos. I just simply combed through my 2016 library, added them to a separate folder and loaded them into the book template. All in one app. Amazingly simple.
While I was working on the layout and photos selection, I got my free swatch kit in the mail (when you order a kit for $7.95 you’ll get a promo code that lets you apply the cost of the kit toward your book purchase). The kit made it so easy to choose the paper type I wanted to use. I got the lustre finish as I love the glossy look and went for the Standard Landscape 10 x 8 in layout.
The only hard part about making the book was choosing which photos, I’m not one for making choices, haha.
I put in my order right before Christmas and it arrived right in time for New Years Eve.
All of us, especially Ava who is IN LOVE with looking at pictures of herself, had so much fun looking through the book. I am looking forward to the yearly tradition of making a “Year in Squares” book. I have to say there is something about looking at your photos as physical prints.
This would make such an amazing gift idea for Valentines Day for your loved one, so don’t wait or contemplate, just make one today as it’s a great way to collect your memories!

Such a lovely idea! I have a background in photography, but lately haven’t been using it as much as I should. I love how beautiful these books are. I will have to check these out for this year!
